Kizen Oyama

Shakuhachi Player

 

Born in 1985 in Hiratsuka City, Kanagawa prefecture.

Studied Kinko-Ryu Shakuhachi, Fuke (traditional style) and contemporary music under Kifu Mitsuhashi. After completing the 55th NHK Traditional Japanese Music Performer Training Program, he was appointed as an official successor of some of koten-honkyoku (traditional Japanese music) that is being passed down today via Kokutaiji Temple. 

He has performed in numerous national and international events, festivals and concerts that include the Great Sengu Celebration at Izumo Taisha Grand Shrine (2013), Japanisches Kulturinstitut Koln and Japan Tag in Dusseldolf (2014, 2017), Asian Folk Music Festival with Ansan Korean Music Orchestra (2015), the 42nd Shikinen Sengu Celebration Event (God Celebration) at Kamigamo Jinja Shrine (2015), International Theater Award at Spazio Teatro NO’HMA Teresa Pomodoro sponsored by the Italian government, winning the Audience Award (2019) and 9/11 Tribute Concert at Tenri Cultural Institute in New York (2020). He has also performed at French Embassy (2017), Cairo Opera House in Egypt (2019) and Daishoin Temple in Miyajima, Hiroshima prefecture (2020). 

As a producer and performer, he has been involved in many stage productions, festivals, school events, workshops, and lectures.
